Monday Football Tips: Back a bookings double in Spain

Paul Higham has a bookings double for Monday night’s Segunda Division in Spain with a couple of defenders looking great value to see yellow…

Fuenlabrada v Gijon
Segunda Division

The Premier League may be over but there’s still plenty of football going on, including in Spain where the second tier Segunda Division still has a couple of games to play and plenty to be settled.

One of those matters still to be decided is the promotion play-offs, with just three points separating the five teams all battling it out for the four spots.

Getting into La Liga and going on to play Barcelona, Real Madrid and the likes is huge, and right now Sporting Gijon are the odd man out as they sit in seventh despite being level on points with sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano.

That makes Monday’s trip to Fuenlabrada absolutely vital – and it’s their opponents that interest us and are the subject of the first stats bet of the week.

Gijon are odds-on favourite to win this game, and with Fuenlabrada having little to play for in mid-table you could think it would be a walkover for the visitors.

It may well be, but Fuenlabrada are not a side that make it easy on others, and are no strangers to getting into the opposition faces and also getting into the referee’s notebook.

They’ve had 118 yellow cards this season and 10 red cards and individually have four players with over 10 bookings and in Pathe Cisse have the league bad boy with four sendings off.

Cisse hasn’t played in the last three games, yet is still 1.9110/11 to see yellow here, and if he does get a start he’s well worth including.

However, we have plenty of options and in Antonio Cristian Glauder we have a defender with 12 bookings in 34 appearances but who is 2.77/4 for a yellow here as he’s been pretty well behaved of late.

This game will see Gijon come flying at them though in desperation and Cristian was booked in the reverse fixtures so has form against these opponents.

Also booked in that last league meeting was Adrian Dieguez, who is 2.35/4 to see yellow again but should probably be shorter after 15 bookings this term including three in his last five games.

Taking either one to get booked is a decent approach, with the defenders set to face a wave of Gijon pressure, but doubling them up provides a healthy looking 6.86/1 for a bet that paid off in the last game and has every chance of coming in again.
