Real Madrid restart their title challenge on Sunday evening when they host Eibar.

They were not in great form at the point of the season being paused. Though they beat Barcelona 2-0 at the start of March, it was their only win in their last four La Liga games (W1 D1 L2), losing 2-1 to Real Betis in their most recent outing.

Currently two points behind Barca, it’s clear that Madrid are going to have to be more consistent if they’re to win their first La Liga title since 2017. If they do manage to overhaul their rivals, they won’t be celebrating at the Bernabeu. With their stadium under construction, they will be playing their remaining matches at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium, where Castilla normally play.

Eibar will be looking to take advantage of any issues Madrid may have in getting used to their new surroundings, but it looks as if they will have their work cut out. They have only won one of their last eight games in all competitions (W1 D2 L5) and are in danger of relegation.

Only two points above the relegation zone, sixteenth placed Eibar are in worse form than any of the four teams below them. They too then are in need of a reversal in form, but their chances of such a change coming this weekend, seem remote.

With a fresh and almost fully fit squad, Real Madrid should win this one with some ease. Back them to win half-time/full-time at [1.83].

Low scoring game when ace defences meet

Athletic Bilbao [4.0] v Atletico Madrid [2.36]; The Draw [2.96]

Atletico Madrid are in a five way battle for the remaining two Champions League places, behind the likely top two Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Diego Simeone’s side are unbeaten in their last five La Liga games, but have drawn too many of them (W2 D3). In the weeks before the season ended they were building some form – notably knocking Liverpool out of the Champions League – but they had been conceding more goals than is typical under Simeone.

That’s a trend that is unlikely to continue against Athletic Bilbao, who are one of the lowest scorers in La Liga and boast the third best defence. With Atletico having the second best defence, this could be a tight match for the visitors. Under 1.5 goals is [2.4].

Sociedad can beat Osasuna for the third time

Real Sociedad [1.76] v Osasuna [5.4]; The Draw [3.9]

One of the teams competing with Atletico for a place in next season’s Champions League are Real Sociedad.

Fourth when the the football was put on hold, it’s been a great season so far for Sociedad, who have already booked their place in the Copa del Rey final where they will face Athletic Bilbao. An entertaining side full of attacking talent, Sociedad can be frustratingly inconsistent (they have lost nine of their 27 league games), but they were improving in that regard, with their only defeat in the last eight games coming away at Barcelona (W7).

The look likely to claim a win against mid-table Osasuna, who they have already beat twice this season. In the reverse fixture Sociedad won 4-3 and they also beat them 3-1 at home in the cup. If those results are indicative, a Real Sociedad win and both teams to score at [3.6].
