Christian Eriksen and Paul Pogba both played for their clubs at the weekend but, on the final day of the European summer transfer window, is there any chance that these unsettled players could leave Tottenham and Manchester United respectively?
Both midfielders are reportedly targets of Real Madrid and the Spanish giants are 7/2 to sign Eriksen today and 4/1 to land Pogba. The Frenchman looked distracted in United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton at the weekend, while Eriksen scored Spurs’ first goal in the north London derby.
There’s little doubt that either player would jump at the chance to move to the Bernabeu – Pogba to link up with his compatriot head coach Zinedine Zidane and Eriksen to take on the fresh challenge he’s said he seeks.
The transfer deadline for La Liga clubs is 23:00 BST tonight, so it could be a late one for the players’ agents and club officials.
Neymar to Madrid? Bale to go the other way to PSG?
Spain’s La Liga is likely to be the hub of any late transfer activity, especially its two biggest clubs – Madrid and Barcelona.
Neymar is 7/2 to leave Paris Saint Germain for the latter and 20/1 to go to Los Blancos. He’s the same price to move to Juventus which seems less likely. Having moved to PSG from Barca it seems likely that, if the Brazilian is going anywhere today, it’s to Camp Nou.
But what of Gareth Bale? Ever since his move to China broke down in the summer, there’s been speculation about whether or not the Welshman would leave the Bernabeu in this window. He scored two and was sent off in Madrid’s draw against Villareal at the weekend so, if he does leave today, he will have certainly enjoyed an eventful swansong.
Bale is 9/2 to join PSG today, 11/2 to move to Bayern Munich and 25/1 to sign for an MLS club.
One man who’s more likely to sign for PSG today is Mario Icardi who is reportedly in the French capital to agree his move from Inter Milan.
Llorente to Napoli and Mkhitaryan to Roma
Fernando Llorente has joined Napoli from Tottenham after two years with the London club. The Spaniard joins the Serie A team on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan is reportedly joining Roma on a season-long loan from Arsenal. The Armenian joined the Gunners from Manchester United at the start of 2018 but has struggled for consistency.
Unai Emery is happy to move him on and the Serie A club, who have also signed Chris Smalling on loan from United, are keen to add Mkhitaryan to their forward line.
