After a sensational three wins in a row the pair are level on points, Hamilton is 1.584/7 for the title and Verstappen 2.6613/8.

Here’s our guide to five of the biggest events this weekend…

All eyes on Gerrard for Anfield return

Liverpool v Aston Villa

Saturday, 15:00

Steve Gerrard is 6/4 favourite to be the next Liverpool manager as he takes his Aston Villa side to Anfield on Saturday afternoon. The Kop legend has made an impressive start at Villa, with three wins in four matches and the club odds-on for a top 10 finish.

As you’d expect, the Reds are a short price to win this and keep themselves top of the Premier League table. If they can do that, and win subsequent matches against Newcastle and Spurs, Jurgen Klopp’s men will be top of the tree for Christmas. And you know what they say – the team that’s top at Christmas wins the league.

We’ll have a preview of the match with our experts’ best bet live from Friday.

Horse racing at Cheltenham and Doncaster

Saturday from 12:05

All week our horse racing tipster Tony Calvin has been assessing the ante-post betting, entries and weather forecast for Saturday’s cards at Cheltenham and Doncaster. Rain is expected to affect conditions at both meetings so it should pay to get expert advice on which runners will handle the ground.

Big Bash continues Down Under

Saturday and Sunday

The Ashes isn’t the only cricket going on in Australia at the moment and it’s possible the T20 Big Bash will provide England fans with some relief. The tournament continues across the weekend, with two games on Saturday and one on Sunday.

We’ll have previews of all three and every other match in he Big Bash this December and January.

Hamilton on brink of history at Abu Dhabi finale

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

13:00

It doesn’t get much more dramatic than this in F1, or at least it hasn’t for many seasons…

Lewis Hamilton heads into Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – the final race of the season – as the favourite to win the Drivers’ Championship. Last month, that looked highly unlikely, as he trailed Max Verstappen in the standings. But after a sensational three wins in a row the pair are level on points, Hamilton is 1.584/7 for the title and Verstappen 2.6613/8.

If Hamilton wins it will be his eighth Drivers’ Championship, surpassing the record seven he currently has along with Michael Schumacher.

Title favourites take on champions in Madrid derby

Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid

Sunday, 20:00

Real Madrid are 1.271/4 to win the La Liga title after starting to pull clear of their rivals in recent weeks. Champions Atletico need to get their campaign back on track and three points at the Bernabeu, where they haven’t won since 2018, would do exactly that.

It’s a big ask though with the hosts winning nine of their last 10 in all competitions. Atletico lost at home to Mallorca last weekend so Diego Simeone will be hoping for a reaction from his players.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men are 2.186/5 while Atletico are available to back at 3.7511/4.
