It’s off to the National League for Tuesday’s best bet with Paul Higham focusing on the half-time stats for Altrincham v Eastleigh…
Altrincham v Eastleigh
Tuesday 25 May, 19:00 kick-off
It’s all about motivation for Tuesday’s best bet, with National League promotion play-off chasers Eastleigh having so much more to play for than mid-table outfit Altrincham.
Eastleigh have won six of the last seven to move into promotion contention, and a win here in their game in hand will fire them up into sixth spot and a place in the play-offs with just a game left to play.
Altrincham enjoyed an entertaining 4-3 win on Saturday – but that was against a Yeovil side with also little to play for – while Eastleigh left it very, very late with Joe Tomlinson’s 92nd-minute penalty beating Boreham Wood to keep their hopes on track.
The quick turnaround will also be a test of fitness and desire, and Altrincham hardly have any need to push themselves as much as Eastleigh will – knowing that a play-off spot is now in their grasp.
No surprises then to see the visitors as big 1.758/11 favourites to win here and worth including in any accas you can dig out from a night of not that much football.
We can massage those odds though by taking in the half-time prospects of these sides as well – in particular Altrincham, who have scored a first-half goal in just three of the last nine.
Also, only the bottom two sides Barnet and King’s Lynn have been behind at half-time more then Altrincham, with them losing at the break 17 times this season.
Eastleigh have had a spot of trouble breaking the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes, but this game is huge, and the motivation factor will play a big part.
Of those 17 games Altrincham have trailed in, they’ve gone on to lose 13 and it’d be a big ask for them to come from behind this late in the campaign.
We have all the conditions then for an Eastleigh/Eastleigh wager in the half-time/full-time market and have decent confidence in a decent return at 3.02/1.
