The Daily Acca: Santos to make a statement in Brazil

Santos to edge out Internacional

Bet 1: Back Santos @ 20/23 – KO 20:00 BST

The selection need to bounce back from a heavy defeat at Palmeiras last weekend, but that is arguably the toughest fixture in Brazilian football, and they are back on home turf today.

Jorge Sampaoli’s side have won both of their matches in front of their own fans this term – a 2-1 success over Fluminense and a 3-0 thrashing of Vasco da Gama.

Opponents, Internacional, come into the fixture on the back of three straight successes – two in the league and one in the cup. All three of them were at home though, and they had to play on Thursday night, whereas the hosts have had eight days recovery time.

It’s also worth noting that the visitors have lost both of their away outings this term, all without scoring a goal.

No separating these two Sao Paulo rivals

Bet 2: Back The Draw in Corinthians v Sao Paulo @ 9/5 – KO 23:00 BST

Two of the biggest names in Brazilian football square-off this evening, and the fact that it is a local rivalry, only adds to the spice.

Corinthians pulled off a shock 2-0 win at Atletico PR last Sunday, and they followed that up with a victory in the Copa Sudamericana during the week.

Sao Paulo meanwhile were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home by Bahia on Sunday, and things got even worse when they lost to them on the same ground in the cup on Wednesday.

Cuca’s men have at least taken 11 points from a possible 15 in the league this season though, so the Bahia results could just be a blip. It would take a huge effort to beat Corinthians in their own backyard though, which is why I think that the spoils will be shared.

Roger Machado’s Bahia to make it three from three at home

Bet 3: Back Bahia @ 1/1 – KO 23:00 BST

Following on from their two impressive results at Sao Paulo, I’m backing Bahia to take all three points in their home game against Fluminense.

The hosts do most of their winning in front of their own fans, and that has been the case this year, with two victories from two in the league on this ground.

Flu have had some strange results this year, with their 5-4 comeback win at Gremio the oddest of the lot. They were beaten in their other away match though, and their record on the road last term was pretty poor.
