The Daily Acca: Home wins in the Brazilian Cup

Gremio’s improvement to continue

Bet 1: Back Gremio @ 1/2 – KO 23:15 BST

Gremio had made a poor start to their league campaign, but they won three out of four prior to the break for the Copa America, and they had been performing well in their other competitions.

Tonight they face fellow top flight opposition, in the shape of Bahia, and while the visitors are higher in the league table, I don’t care too much for their away record.

Roger Machado – who is a former Gremio manager – returns to Porto Alegre tonight, with his team having taken just two points from a possible 15 on the road this term. They failed to score in three of those games, and they also lost the away leg to Londrina, earlier in this competition.

Hurricane to blow another opponent away

Bet 2: Back Athletico Paranaense @ 6/4 – KO 01:30 BST (Thurs)

Tiago Nunes‘ hosts are a pretty formidable unit at Arena da Baixada, and other than a slip-up against Corinthians in May, they have won all of their other home fixtures this season – including a 3-0 thumping of Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores.

Flamengo are no also-rans – in fact, they are one of the best teams in the country – and while they come into the match in good form, they aren’t exactly prolific winners on their travels.

‘Big Mengo’ have won just one of five away from home in the league this year, and they failed to beat LDU Quito and Penarol in the Copa Libertadores.

Palmeiras to march on

Bet 3: Back Palmeiras @ 8/15 – KO 01:30 BST (Thurs)

The hosts are head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in Brazil and while the Copa do Brasil will be third in their priorities behind the league and the Libertadores, now that they are in the final eight, I can’t imagine that they won’t take it seriously.

Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men are five points clear at the top of Serie A, having won eight and draws one of their nine matches, in defence of their title.

Internacional are doing well themselves, as they sit in fourth, but it’s a big ask to go to Allianz Parque and get a result. They have already been beaten here once this year, and they have actually taken just one point from a possible 12 away from home.
