There are two finals in Paul Robinson’s odds boosted Daily Acca today, and it begins at Wembley in the Play-offs. Here are his selections:
Bees to make honey at Wembley
Bet 1: Back Brentford @ 5/6 – KO 15:00 BST
It’s the most valuable match in the whole of football and I am backing Brentford to make amends for last season’s disappointment.
Thomas Frank’s men were beaten by Fulham in last year’s final, but they showed great character to come back from a first leg deficit against Bournemouth in the semis, and in Ivan Toney, they have the league’s leading scorer.
The Swans limped into the Play-offs with just one victory from their final five fixtures in the regular campaign. They narrowly saw off Barnsley in the semis, but they lack the class of Brentford, and I expect them to come up well short this afternoon.
Mission complete for City
Bet 2: Back Man City @ 19/20 – KO 20:00 BST
The Champions League has been the one trophy that has alluded Manchester City since they became a footballing powerhouse, but that should come to an end tonight, as I expect the Citizens to beat Chelsea.
The Blues hold two victories over City since the beginning of April, but Pep Guardiola didn’t play his best XI in either of those matches, and that won’t be the case here.
Thomas Tuchel’s team head to Portugal having lost three of their four most recent outings, and it isn’t like the former PSG boss has been playing a weakened team.
Scoring goals has proved to be an issue for Chelsea under Tuchel, so up against the best defence in the Premier League, I just don’t see how they avoid defeat inside of the 90 minutes.
New-boys to be beaten in Brazil
Bet 3: Back CRB @ 6/5 – KO 20:00 BST
We finish with a much lower profile game, and it comes from the Brazilian Serie B.
Remo are new to the division, following their promotion from Serie C last season. They are back in the second tier of Brazilian football for the first time since 2007, but looking at their results last term, they didn’t have a great win rate on the road.
The hosts finished 10th in Serie B last year, and they won 11 of their 19 at home. They finished the campaign with five straight victories on this ground – scoring 14 goals and conceding just two.
It’s always difficult to gauge the relative merits of teams in lesser leagues at the beginning of a new season, but all things being equal, 6/5 appears to be a decent price for a CRB victory.
