Pandora Hughes is back with another weekend multiple and she is siding with Liverpool in the day’s big Premier League clash.
“City struck a significant blow in this year’s title race against Chelsea last weekend but they were disappointing in a midweek defeat against PSG and they have already dropped points against Southampton and Tottenham this season.”
This has become one of the most eagerly awaited games in world football and Sunday’s clash between the two most recent Premier League winners promises to be a fascinating and entertaining occasion.
City struck a significant blow in this year’s title race against Chelsea last weekend but they were disappointing in a midweek defeat against PSG and they have already dropped points against Southampton and Tottenham this season.
There have been no such signs of weakness from Liverpool, who have continued their unstoppable form from the end of the last campaign and seem hungry to regain their crown. City are their toughest opponents and all three results are possible, but I think the home side look a little underrated at these odds.
There are plenty of top-class races besides the showpiece event on the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe card at Longchamp on Sunday including this illustrious Group One for two-year-olds, which features some of Europe’s most promising young horses.
Phoenix Stakes winner Ebro River and three-time winner Ancient Rome head the market but Accakaba could be a better option at bigger odds.
The Acclamation filly has won all four outings so far, and her latest win in the Prix du Calvados, suggested there was much more to come. Stepping up to seven furlongs, she coped well with the trip and the soft underfoot conditions to hold off subsequent Group winner Fleur D’Iris in a tight finish, underlining her battling qualities. The four pound fillies’ allowance will help and she looks like the value bet here.
After last weekend’s horror show at the Emirates, things are looking dire for Tottenham and it isn’t obvious how they are going to turn things around in the short term under a manager who is already under huge pressure.
Against the Gunners, the Tottenham midfield was non-existent and they were vulnerable on the flanks, both weaknesses that a well-organised Villa team are well positioned to exploit with their settled central three and rampaging wing backs.
Villa have been a little inconsistent on the road so far this season but their impressive victory at Old Trafford last weekend should boost their confidence and in their current state, Spurs are there for the taking. Back the winners to pile on the pressure.
