Paul Higham is looking at old favourite bad boys Getafe to get stuck in and get their names in the book in their derby game with Real Madrid…
“Renowned bad boys Getafe average three bookings per home game this season so it’s not hard to see them getting one more in a big derby game against Real Madrid.”
We’re big fans of Spanish football and in this column in particular we like looking at the top offenders in La Liga who can very often be reliably backed to pile up the bookings.
We backed Valencia earlier this week who responded with a bagful of yellow cards at home and two of their fellow serial offenders are in action on Sunday for us to pick from.
Watch out for Mallorca playing Barcelona at home on Sunday evening as they’ll surely pile up more than a few cards, but we’ve got one of our old favourites in action in La Liga bad boys Getafe.
Getafe are behind only the aforementioned Valencia in terms of yellow cards this season with 54 from 18 games played – while also throwing in four red cards to show they’re still one of the bad boys of Spanish football.
And what’s more, Sunday’s visitors to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez are fancy cross-city rivals and league leaders Real Madrid who are arriving for a huge derby clash.
Getafe have scrapped their way out of the relegation zone with a nice recent run after a stinking start to the season, and they’d like nothing more than to end Real’s 11-game unbeaten run.
There’s an ever-so-slight bias in favour of home games in terms of the split of cards for Getafe too, with 28 of their 54 yellows coming at home, along with three of their five reds.
With an average of just over three cards per home game, it’s not a huge ask for Getafe to add one more to that for this derby game for a shade under 2/1.
