Paul Higham can see few goals but more than a few cards as Lorient host French champions Lille on Friday night…
Lorient v Lille
Friday 10 September 20:00
It’s been a tough start to the defence of their Ligue 1 title for Lille, but then again it was always going to be having caused a shock by dethroning the mighty PSG.
The Empire should strike back this season with Lionel Messi added to the ranks, and Lille already find themselves in 10th place in the table with one win and five points from four games so far – exactly the same tally as Friday’s opponents Lorient.
Lille are champions though, and did the double over Lorient last season with 4-0 and 4-1 victories – but the latter was one of just two home defeats for the hosts in all of 2021.
Lorient are in great form at home with five straight wins and just two goals conceded with that Lille defeat in February the only time in nine home matches when they’ve let in more than one goal.
So it should be a cagey encounter but if there’s a lack of goals there shouldn’t be a lack of cards, with these two among the most booked sides in the French top flight so far.
Lorient actually lead the way as the top bad boys of Ligue 1 with 16 yellow cards and two reds in just four games – while Lille are third with 11 bookings in their four games so far.
So with all things considered this game is ripe for a Bet Builder with the result capable of going either way but with solid stats behind adding over 2.5 Lorient bookings to under 2.5 match goals for tidy profit.
