Football Bet of the Day: Yokohama FM to turn up the volume

Tobias Gourlay’s headed to Japan, where he’s hoping for a large side of goals with his Friday lunch

Yokohama FM v Sapporo
Friday 11:30

Blackburn blanked at Ewood Park last night and left us empty handed too. The hosts lost 0-2 as the perfectly named Billy Sharp gave the visiting Blades their cutting edge, scoring twice in the second half.

Today we’re hoping to cut a swath through Japan. We went to Yokohama a few weeks ago and they delivered the goals we wanted. For the visit of Sapporo, we’re aiming a little bit higher.

In home matches, Yokohama FM are simultaneously the J League’s most potent attacking force (29 goals scored in 14 home games this season) and its weakest defensive unit (28 conceded). Twelve of those 14 matches have produced Over 2.5 Goals and we’re confident this one can get there too. Angelos Postecoglou’s men have scored in all 14 of those games, while keeping just a single clean sheet. Just recently, they’ve conceded at least twice in 6/7.

Fourth-placed Sapporo lost their last away match 0-7 at league leaders Kawasaki. Despite their lofty position, they’ve managed just one clean sheet from their last eight road trips. Six of those eight games got to Over 2.5 Goals. We’re looking at two very shaky defences here, so instead of playing safe with Over 2.5 Goals at around [1.60], we’re going to take on the even-money prospect of Over 3.0 in the Goal Lines market. This bet’s a winner if there are four goals or more, but it also returns our stake if there are exactly three.
