After a near-miss in Wales, Kev hopes for a winner in the Republic of Ireland, as we lay an odds-on favourite.
“Waterford have taken just a point from their last five games, and their away form is poor. UCD are chasing a third straight home win in the league.”
Students to learn from their mauling
UCD v Waterford
Friday 26 July, 19:45
We were undone by a rearguard action laced with heroism last night, as semi-pro side Connah’s Quay dug in against Partizan, and their 1-0 defeat left us a goal short.
We briefly mourn our first setback of the week, before moving from Wales to the Republic of Ireland. There’s a good old-fashioned relegation six-pointer, as UCD take on Waterford.
University College Dublin are bottom of the table, and were smacked 7-0 in their last outing at Shamrock Rovers. That might make you want to run a mile from backing them, but their general recent form has been very good. They are chasing a third straight home win in the league, after 1-0 successes against Finn Harps and Bohemians. They have collected seven points from their last four games, which is one of their best runs of form since winning promotion last season.
Waterford are seven points better off than UCD, but their away form is dreadful, with just one point picked up from the last three away matches. Overall, Waterford have collected a measly point from their last five games, and in the reverse fixture they only edged out UCD 1-0.
Waterford have won just twice away from home in the league, and as such I think they are too short for the win at [1.55], even against the division’s bottom side.
