We’re chasing a third consecutive winner on FBOTD, and Kev’s checking in with the Bundesliga champions.
Champions to strut their stuff
Bayern Munich v Borussia Mönchengladbach

Live on Sky Sports and Betfair Live Video
When centre-back Jules Kounde leathers a drive into the bottom corner, you know the football gods are on your side. The French international’s stunning goal helped Sevilla secure a 2-0 Copa del Rey victory at Real Zaragoza, giving us back-to-back winners.
We’ll head to Germany now, and despite a major COVID-19 outbreak at Bayern Munich, their Rückrunde opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach is set to go ahead.
There has been a lot of talk about the game being called off, but the German football authorities tend to set a very high bar for postponements, and clubs are expected to dig into their reserve and youth squads to get matches fulfilled. What we do know is that there won’t be any fans in the stadium, as we are now back to geisterspiele (ghost games) in the German top flight because of the latest wave of the pandemic.
Bayern have been in unstoppable form at home and abroad. They are nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, and they won all six of their group games in the Champions League. The only major blot on their copybook was against tonight’s opponents Gladbach, who smashed the Bavarians 5-0 in the DFB Cup.
However, that was a bright spot in a gloomy campaign for Adi Hütter’s Gladbach, who have struggled badly in the league. The Foals won just five of their 17 Bundesliga games in the first half of the season, and they finished 2021 by picking up only a point from their final five matches.
Even with all of their absences, I still think Bayern are fair favourites here at 1.412/5, and we can use star striker Robert Lewandowski to boost that price to 1.875/6 on the Sportsbook’s Bet Builder. We can back the Bayern win, Lewandowski to score (he’s the top scorer in the league with 19 goals) and Lewandowski to have at least two shots on target. The Polish star has had more goal attempts than anyone in the division, and averages a league-high 2.3 shots on target per game.
