Champions to cruise to victory
Sporting v Portimonense
Wednesday 29 December, 21:00
Considering that our boys Chelghoum Laid had only scored two goals and only conceded six across their first nine league games in the Algerian top flight, their 2-2 thriller at MC Oran last night was somewhat unexpected, but we were right to lay the hosts at odds-on to give us our first winner of the week.
We’ll head to Portugal, because champions Sporting continue to impress in their bid to win another title under impressive coach Ruben Amorim. The Lions have won their last ten games in the Primeira Liga, and interestingly for our purposes, nine of those matches have stayed under the 3.5 goals line.
Sporting have the best defensive record in the division, with just five goals leaked across their first 15 games, and they haven’t lost a league match since a 4-3 defeat at bitter rivals Benfica in May. At the Jose Alvalade, they have won ten of their last 11 league outings, conceding just two goals in the process.
So what kind of challenge can be posed by Portimonense? Well, they have forced their way into the top six, and have won three of their last five top-flight matches. However, they tend to come unstuck against the division’s elite sides. They lost 3-0 to Porto and 3-0 at Braga, although they did manage a 1-0 success at Benfica.
We can use the Sportsbook’s Bet Builder to combine a Sporting win, an Under 3.5 Goals bet and a wager that backs Sporting to win the Corner Match Bet. Sporting only concede three corners per match on average in the league, and they win 6.2, while Portimonense win 4.2 corners per game and concede 5.5.
