After a push to start the week, we’re heading to bonny Scotland, and we’re backing Inverness to move back towards the big time.
Visitors to boost promotion push
Ayr United v Inverness CT
Tuesday May 7, 19:45
A dull Danish draw in Esbjerg, but the goalless stalemate with Nordsjaelland did us no harm, as our stake was returned. We’ll stay in Northern Europe for our next wager, because Ayr United are up against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Championship promotion playoffs.
Inverness finished third in the table, while Ayr were fourth. They’ll now do battle over two legs, with the winner facing Dundee United for a place in the top flight.
Ayr haven’t been in the top division of Scottish football since 1978, and last season they were competing in the third tier, so the collection of back-to-back promotions would be quite some story.
The Honest Men aren’t on great form though, with three defeats in their last five matches. They are particularly losing momentum at Somerset Park, where they have won just one of their last eight games.
Inverness finished the regular season with two wins, and they have lost just two of their last ten matches. Their record against tonight’s opponents is excellent – across the league campaign they faced Ayr four times, and claimed ten points. They won both of the clashes in Ayr.
Given the two teams’ form, and Inverness’ superb results against Ayr this season, I’ll back the visitors Draw No Bet in the first leg at [2.1].
