We’re chasing a third straight winner, and Kev’s looking for excitement in Israel.
Swashbuckling visitors can strike
Maccabi Tel Aviv v Dinamo Brest
Wednesday 16 September, 18:00
It truly was a Greek tragedy for Benfica and the returning Jorge Jesus last night, as the Portuguese giants tumbled out of the Champions League thanks to a 2-1 defeat at PAOK. Thankfully, we opposed the Lisbon club at odds-on.
We’ll stick with the UCL qualifiers, and head to Israel. Maccabi Tel Aviv are up against Dinamo Brest, and I can see both teams finding the net in an entertaining tussle.
Dinamo Brest were surprise champions of Belarus last season, but their title defence has not been a success. They have collected a paltry 32 points from 21 games, and they are well behind the leaders BATE Borisov. In fact, Dinamo are closer to the dropzone than they are to top spot.
Although things aren’t going well domestically, Dinamo have lit up the early rounds of this competition. They caused a big surprise by hammering Kazakh side Astana 6-3, and they followed that up with an impressive 2-1 success against Sarajevo.
Maccabi Tel Aviv’s season has been thrown into turmoil by the loss of coach Vladimir Ivic to Championship side Watford. The Serbian had led Maccabi to back-to-back league title wins in Israel, and they only lost one top-flight match last term. In his first campaign, they won the title by 31 points.
Ivic’s replacement is Giorgos Donis, who won his first four matches in charge. However, the last two outings have seen the capital club lose 2-1 at home to Maccabi Petah Tikva, and draw 2-2 at Bnei Yehuda.
Dinamo have rattled in 16 goals in their last five matches, while Maccabi have scored in their last seven games in all competitions. I’ll back Both Teams To Score here at [1.95].
