Football Bet of the Day: Defences to be flayed in Adelaide

Tobias Gourlay’s headed Down Under for what he hopes will be a goal-filled A-League match on Friday morning

Adelaide United v Perth Glory
Friday 08:50

We got to three goals in Germany yesterday, but not in the way we thought we would. Bottom-of-the-table Aalen stunned promotion-chasing Karlsruhe with a 3-0 victory that not many could have seen coming. We’ll count ourselves fortunate to have walked away with a winner.

In search of another one, we’ve come all the way to Australia for Friday morning’s A-League match between fifth-placed Adelaide United and top-of-the-table Perth Glory. Marco Kurz’s hosts have conceded six times across their last two home appearances and we reckon there are more goals on the way.

Despite their lofty position, Tony Popovic’s visitors have managed just a single clean sheet across their last six on the road. Four of those six have delivered Over 2.5 Goals as Perth have been prolific in attack. Since the start of term, the Glory have struck at least twice in 7/10 away matches.

Meanwhile, Adelaide have also been struggling at the back. United have logged just two clean sheets in 10 attempts at Coopers Stadium. They’ve been more impressive upfront, striking nine times in their last four home matches. With potent attacks meeting shaky defences at both ends of the pitch, we’re backing Over 2.5 Goals at close to even money.
