Benfica could leapfrog Barca
Benfica have a chance of making it through to the last-16 of the Champions League, if Bayern Munich do them a favour.
The Portuguese giants are third in Group E, two points below second placed Barcelona. Should Benfica win their home match with Dynamo Kiev, then Barcelona will need to win their match away at Bayern Munich, if they are to hold onto second place. If they finish level on points, it is Benfica that have the superior head-to-head record, having beaten Barcelona 3-0 at home and then drawn 0-0 at the Camp Nou.
This is the second big match of the week for Benfica and they lost the first. At the weekend, they were defeated 3-1 at home to Sporting Lisbon and are now third in the Primeira Liga, four points behind Sporting and the leaders Porto.
Dynamo Kiev’s only point in the group came in the reverse fixture, which ended as a 0-0 draw. Already eliminated from Europe, they are at least still involved in their domestic title race. Kiev’s 3-0 win at Veres Rivne over the weekend, leaves them second in the Ukrainian Premier League, only behind Shakhtar by virtue of having scored less goals.
Kiev struggling to score
Benfica are the heavy 1.341/3 favourites, with the draw at 5.95/1 and Dynamo Kiev at 11.521/2.
Dynamo’s goal in their 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich was the first that they’ve scored during the group stage. With the visitors having nothing to play for, Benfica should be able to win to nil at 2.111/10. The only goals that Benfica have conceded in the competition so far, have come in their matches against Bayern Munich.
