The Champions League winners begin their Bundesliga defence at home to Schalke 04, and while I fully expect them to win, I can certainly see the visitors getting on the scoresheet.
Hansi Flick’s men failed to keep a clean sheet in three of their final four matches last season, and while the title was already pretty much wrapped up at that point, it’s not easy to just turn it off and on again.
Schalke disappointed to only finish 12th last year, but David Wagner remains in charge, and they have won their two latest friendlies.
Despite finishing the previous campaign in terrible form, they still managed to find the net in three of their last four on the road – two of which saw this selection land.
Mark Robins’ side to open their Championship account
Bet 2: Back Coventry @ 7/5 – KO 19:45 BST
The Sky Blues started their life in the Championship with a 2-1 defeat at Bristol City, but they were well in that game for a long time, and the Robins are promotion contenders.
They have things a little easier back at St Andrew’s, as while QPR beat Nottingham Forest on the opening day, I don’t see Mark Warburton’s team challenging the top six.
Rangers didn’t have a great away record last season, and despite St Andrew’s having to play their home matches in Birmingham, they have excelled there since the groundshare began.
Lyon to edge out Nimes
Bet 3: Back Lyon & BTTS @ 2/1 – KO 20:00 BST
Nimes were fortunate to avoid relegation from Ligue One last season, as they were third from bottom and were saved a possible Play-off due to the early ending of the league.
They won their opening match of this campaign – a 4-0 thumping of Brest – but since then it’s been defeats to Nantes and Rennes.
Jérôme Arpinon’s men did score in both of those losses though, and with Lyon failing to fire since their Champions League exploits, they should be capable of getting on the scoresheet at the Groupama Stadium.
