Football Bet of the Day: Chaos in Cologne

It’s been a mixed week so far, but Kev thinks he’s found a winner in his beloved Bundesliga.

“Koln have scored in their last 16 Bundesliga matches, while Union have conceded more goals than any other Bundesliga club in 2020.”

The return of calcio wasn’t quite as exciting as we hoped for. An early red card for Milan, and a strangely off-colour performance from Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo contributed to a goalless draw. That result sent Juve to the Coppa Italia final without securing our Asian Handicap bet, as a determined but ultimately unadventurous Milan meekly went out.

We’ll return to Germany, because we hope for more excitement in the cathedral city of Cologne, as Köln take on Union Berlin. Neither team has won since the restart, but I still think we’ll be entertained.

Köln had won eight of 11 going into the enforced hiatus, but they have struggled since the restart. They’ve dropped seven points from winning positions, and while they almost always score (Markus Gisdol’s men have found the net in their last 16 Bundesliga games) they have also leaked 14 goals in their last six outings. The Billy Goats know one more win will at least avoid automatic relegation.

Union also have work to do to avoid the drop, but they haven’t won since February, and have conceded a league-high 29 goals in 2020. On their travels, they have leaked at least three goals in five of their last seven matches.

I think both teams will see this as an opportunity to pick up a precious win, and will approach it accordingly. I expect goals, and will happily back Over 2.5 Goals at [1.92].
