Football Bet of the Day: Goliath will crush David

We’re taking in a French Cup semi-final tonight, and Kev thinks Monaco will progress with room to spare.

Monaco to cruise into final

Rimully Vallieres v Monaco
Thursday 13 May, 20:15

Atalanta moved a step closer to Champions League qualification last night, as they beat Benevento 2-0, but their relatively reserved attacking display did us no favours. A tough start to the week, but we’ll keep going.

We move to France now, because Monaco are hoping to enhance what’s already been a good season by reaching the Coupe de France final, as they face amateur side Rimully Vallieres in the semi-finals.

Monaco boss Niko Kovac is something of a cup specialist, having reached the DFB Cup final with Eintracht Frankfurt against the odds in 2017, and having then won the same competition with the Eagles the following year. The Croatian coach overcame mighty Bayern Munich in the 2018 final, and then won the cup again with them the following year. In Ligue 1, ASM aren’t totally out of the title race yet, and they have had a superb campaign.

While Monaco have been chasing glory, National 2 side Rimully Vallieres have been kicking their heels, with the league season cancelled because of COVID-19. That makes it all the more remarkable that they have got this far, and they beat Ligue 2 side Toulouse 2-0 in the quarter-finals. They haven’t played a competitive game since then, and that was nearly a month ago.

Kovac will take this seriously, and I just can’t see an amateur side with no match-fitness living with Monaco over 90 minutes, especially when you consider that Monaco have kept 13 clean sheets in their last 17 games. I’ll back ASM -2.0 on the Asian Handicap at 1.814/5.
