The Daily Acca: Bhoys to get an away goal at Rosenborg

It’s all about the Champions League for Paul Robinson this evening as he has picked out a 5/1 treble. Here are his selections:

Basel to suffer shock exit to PAOK

Bet 1: Back PAOK and Draw @ 5/6 – KO 19:00 BST

Basel have made a pretty poor start to their campaign as they have taken one point from a possible six in their domestic league and also lost the first leg of this second qualifying round tie in the Champions League.

A 2-1 defeat in Greece isn’t the worst result in the world as it gives them an away goal, but they left it late to find the net last week and I’m not convinced that they will be able to use it to their advantage this evening.

PAOK haven’t started their domestic campaign yet but they have played plenty of friendlies and achieved good results along the way. The victory in the first leg gives them something to defend at St Jakob-Park and it really wouldn’t surprise me if they earned a 0-0 draw to progress.

Dutch giants to complete the job in Austria

Bet 2: Back Ajax @ 20/23 – KO 19:30 BST

There is no denying that Ajax aren’t the force of old – and they haven’t been for a number of years now – but they should be good enough to make it through to the group stage of the Champions League, and dispatching Sturm Graz will put them one step closer.

Erik ten Hag’s side won the first leg in Amsterdam by a 2-0 scoreline and I can see them following up with another win here. Given that the Austrians didn’t bag an away goal, they have to chase the game somewhat, and that should enable Ajax to have plenty of joy in the attacking third.

If the visitors do get that all important away goal, the tie is effectively dead, and that could lead to home heads dropping. They aren’t in Ajax’s class anyway when it comes to this level of competition, so near even money for an away win is decent value.

Goals at both ends in Norway

Bet 3: Back BTTS in Rosenborg v Celtic @ 8/11 – KO 19:45 BST

We conclude with Celtic’s trip to Rosenborg and I’m a firm believer that there will be plenty of goals in this one.

Brendan Rodgers‘ men came from behind to win 3-1 at Celtic Park last week and they head to Norway with a great chance of knocking Rosenborg out of the Champions League for the second time in as many years.

Since Rodgers took over the club, he has definitely made them more attacking and they have had no issues with scoring goals at some of the European elite.

The hosts clearly need to go for it tonight given the scoreline and I definitely fancy them to net at least once themselves, and I’m actually quite surprised that this selection is as big as it is in the market.
