Having been matched at [680.0] on the Betfair Exchange to win this season’s Champions League Tottenham are now just one win away from lifting the trophy. Mike Norman has the details…
“Spurs are now trading at just [2.72] to win this season’s Champions League in Madrid in just over three weeks time, Liverpool are the odds-on favourites, available to back at [1.58].”
Tottenham will play Liverpool in an all-English Champions League final on Saturday 1 June after they produced a stunning comeback to beat Ajax, thanks to a 96th minute winner by hat-trick hero Lucas Moura on Wednesday night.
The remarkable victory came just 24 hours after Liverpool’s own heroics when they overturned a 3-0 first leg defeat to beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield.
Moura magic seals famous victory
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg Spurs got off to the worst start possible in Amsterdam when first half goals from Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech saw them go into the interval 2-0 down on the night, 3-0 on aggregate.
But just like Liverpool had done the night before Tottenham showed tremendous fighting spirit to get back into the tie, Moura scoring twice in quick succession to bring the scores level on the night.
In a dramatic conclusion Ajax hit the post before Spurs had a goal-bound shot cleared off the line, but in the 96th minute of the match Moura shot low from the edge of the box, the ball finding the bottom corner of the net to spark wild celebrations among the travelling support and the Tottenham staff and players.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s men were matched at a high of [44.0] to win the game when trailing 2-0, and at [30.0] in the To Qualify market. The 2-3 Correct Score was matched at [48.0] in-play.
Doing it the hard way
Tottenham’s path to the final is even more remarkable when you consider that they were matched at [680.0] on the Exchange in the Champions League Winner market after collecting just one point from their first three group stage games.
But the Lilywhites took seven points from their final three matches – including drawing away to Barcelona – to pip Inter Milan before memorable victories over Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City in the knock-out rounds set up their semi-final with Ajax, a side that had already eliminated Real Madrid and Juventus.
Spurs are now trading at just [2.72] to win this season’s Champions League in Madrid in just over three weeks time, Liverpool are the odds-on favourites, available to back at [1.58].
