Under pressure Germans can move to top of group

Bayern are currently tied at the top of Group E with Ajax, but this looks like a perfect opportunity for them to move ahead of the Dutch giants.

With Ajax facing a difficult away trip to Benfica where they could well drop points, Bayern could find themselves clear at the top of their group, with what should be a routine victory over AEK Athens. Champions League success is certainly important for Niko Kovac as he faces difficult times domestically.

A wobble earlier on this season in which Bayern went four games without a win, was followed by four straight victories, but this weekend that run came to an end with a disappointing 1-1 home draw with Freiburg. On Saturday they face an away trip to the Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, who they currently trail by four points. Defeat could put real pressure on Kovac’s already fragile position.

AEK Athens are at least unlikely to pose such a threat. They are fifth in the Greek Super League and have lost all three of their Champions League matches, with the latest loss coming in the reverse fixture against Bayern.

Bayern will keep another clean sheet against AEK

Bayern are such a short price that it’s pretty difficult to find value in either their victory, or the possible outcome of them scoring plenty of goals.

With that in mind, we’ll go for Bayern to win while keeping a clean sheet. The German champions have kept two clean sheets in three Champions League matches, while AEK have drawn a blank in two of their three, with Bayern winning 2-0 in Greece. Bayern to win to nil only pays out at [1.57], but does at least seem likely to land.
