The Daily Acca: Ibrox to be rocking in the Europa League

Paul Robinson has picked out what he believes to be two Europa League winners and one in the Copa Libertadores tonight. Here are his selections:

Scottish misery for Ole Gunnar Solskjær

Bet 1: Back Hibernian @ 29/20 – KO 19:45 BST

This is the first leg of a third round qualifying game in the Europa League and whoever progresses from this tie will be in the final play-off round.

Hibernian have already knocked out NSI and Asteras Tripolis to date and they won both home legs in the process. They had to come from behind in the previous round, but they still ran out 3-2 winners in the end.

Their opponents this time are Norwegian club, FK Molde, with Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men also in their third European tie of the season. Despite their progress, they were beaten in the away leg against Glenavon, and they are only fourth in their domestic division currently.

Neil Lennon’s side warmed up for this clash with a thumping 3-0 win over Motherwell at Easter Road on Saturday, and at 29/20, they are a good price to follow up with another victory.

Rangers to move one step closer to the Europa League Group Stage

Bet 2: Back Rangers @ 1/1 – KO 19:45 BST

Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers were desperately unlucky not to win their opening SPL fixture of the campaign as they conceded an injury time goal at Aberdeen – and they had to play most of the game with 10 men. It’s worth remembering that Aberdeen were runners-up behind Celtic last year and pushed Burnley all the way in the last round of this competition.

NK Maribor are best known for their Champions League performance last term as they made it through to the group phase. They didn’t pick up a win against either Liverpool, Sevilla or Spartak Moscow, but they did earn three draws from six outings.

The visitors are currently top of the Slovenian top flight having taken seven points from a possible nine, but a trip to Ibrox can be a pretty intimidating occasion and the Scots have a spring in their step at present.

No holding back the River in Argentina

Bet 3: Back River Plate @ 17/10 – KO 23:30 BST

Two Argentinian clubs meets in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores tonight and I’m backing the away side to come out on top in this first leg.

River Plate have started their season with a couple of thumping cup victories and they finished the previous campaign in rampant form – they went 17 unbeaten in all competitions.

Here they travel to Racing Club – a big name in their own right in South American football – but they haven’t had the advantage of any competitive football of late.

It’s also worth noting that the hosts finished last term with three straight defeats, and when they met in April on this ground, it was River Plate who ran out 2-0 winners.
