You may have forgotten, but Chelsea won the Champions League last season! And part of their reward is to play in the Uefa Super Cup against Europa League winners Villarreal on Wednesday night.

Belfast will host the game that may not be top of everyone’s list but is a trophy nonetheless and lifting silverware is always a nice confidence boost ahead of the new season.

It’s usually a long night’s work as well, as five of the last six have needed extra time or penalties to settle the argument, with all six seeing both teams score.

The last two Super Cup matches have finished 1-1 after 90 minutes – the previous four though had gone over the 2.5 goal mark inside regulation time.

You know Thomas Tuchel will be taking this seriously as well as he looks to add another trophy in his short time in charge, and his side are big favourites in their fourth appearance in the last 10 years against the Spanish side making their debut.

Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech started Chelsea’s last game and could do so again – although Tammy Abraham is in the squad and could get a farewell appearance with a move to Roma in the offing.

Unai Emery’s side will be no pushovers though, with Spain forward Gerard Moreno the obvious danger – he scored first in five of Villarreal’s last eight Europea League games.

Both sides will fancy their chances of scoring given how goals have flowed in pre-season, but that’s pre-season and when the serious business of winning trophies kicks in then this could be a lot tighter.

Villarreal have played 18 competitive games against English sides and everyone one has had under 3.5 goals, while Chelsea’s success last season was built on defensive solidity – so it may not be a goalfest.

So we’re looking into the shots markets and a trio of players that will surprise nobody but that will give us a decent return in a Bet Builder treble.

Hakim Ziyech has been lively in pre-season and should start alongside Timo Werner – who finished last season with 11 shots on target in nine games.

Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno completes the set and he was no stranger to a shot on target last season – ending the campaign with 12 in his last 13 outings.
