Sweet win for Toffees in Marco Silva derby
Everton vs Watford – SAT 15:00
Everton couldn’t break down Crystal Palace last weekend, but did create the better of the chances (xG: CRY 0.85 – 1.34 EVE), limiting Palace to very little. Watford couldn’t break down Brighton in a heavy defeat, and are likely to struggle again here against their former manager, with a 54% chance of both teams to score ‘no’, and a 57% chance of an Everton win – 2-0.
Honours even at Carrow Road
Norwich vs Newcastle – SAT 15:00
Norwich got a lot of stick for their approach against Liverpool last Friday (xG: LIV 2.05 – 0.88 NOR), but in comparison to Aston Villa’s display, there were a lot more positives for the Canaries moving forward. Newcastle barely made a mark on Arsenal’s goal last Sunday, and a tight game between two teams who are evenly matched is expected, with a 52% chance of Under 2.5 goals – 1-1.
Reds to keep rolling
Southampton vs Liverpool – SAT 15:00
Southampton were unfortunate to lose against Burnley last weekend, and so heavily (xG: BUR 1.02 – 1.19 SOU). Liverpool laboured to a 4-1 win against Norwich, and beat Chelsea on penalties in the European Super Cup in midweek, though conceded again. A 53% chance of both sides netting here, and 54% chance of Over 2.5 Goals in a Liverpool win (60%) – 1-3.
Dominant City too good for Spurs
Manchester City vs Tottenham – SAT 17:30
City picked up where they left off last season, as they dominated West Ham 5-0 on the opening weekend, racking up 3.07 xG in the process. Tottenham rightly beat Aston Villa 3-1 (xG: TOT 2.93 – 0.64 AST), but they play the best team in the league here. Infogol gives a 54% chance of BTTS ‘no’, and a 69% chance of a City win, so another shutout for Guardiola’s side could be on the cards – 2-0.
Eagles to soar at the Lane
Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace – SUN 14:00
Sheffield United scored late to earn a deserved point at Bournemouth, Billy Sharp coming up trumps with the goal. Crystal Palace couldn’t break down Everton, though Wilfried Zaha should be in from the start here. A 57% chance of both teams scoring, 53% chance of Over 2.5 goals and a 43% chance of a Palace win – 1-2.
Foxes to extend Chelsea’s winless start
Chelsea vs Leicester – SUN 16:30
Chelsea were pummelled 4-0 by Manchester United last weekend, though that wasn’t a fair reflection of the game, with the scoreline flattering United (xG: MUN 2.17 – 1.05 CHE). Defensively though question marks remain, and Leicester are a tough team to play against, with the Infogol model thinking a low-scoring game is on the cards (61% Under 2.5), with Leicester having a 57% chance of avoiding defeat – 1-1.
Wolves to beat United again
Wolves vs Manchester United – MON 20:00
Wolves earned a good point away at Leicester (xG: LEI 0.77 – 0.73 WOL) to get their season underway, while Manchester United were clinical in a 4-0 win over Chelsea. Wolves beat United twice at the back end of last season, good value on both occasions, so there is no reason to think it can’t happen again, with the Infogol model making Wolves 42% favourites to win the game, 60% chance of both teams scoring and a 57% chance of Over 2.5 goals – 2-1 (again).
