Manchester United have this morning sacked Jose Mourinho; Michael Carrick has been appointed interim manager immediately, while the club have announced that a temporary external appointment will be made within the next 48 hours.
Mourinho leaves the club after two and a half years in charge following a disastrous start to the 2018/19 season which sees United trailing bitter rivals Liverpool by a massive 19 points as well as being 11 points off fourth-placed Chelsea.
Worst start ever to a Premier League season
Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool means Mourinho was in charge of a United team that has made the worst start to a Premier League season ever, amassing just 26 points from 17 league games.
United were also dumped out of the EFL Cup by Championship side Derby, and although they qualified for the Champions League knock-out phase, they drifted in that particular market
Zidane and Conte the early favourites to take over
