Jose Mourinho Sacked: Blanc the favourite to replace him as United manager

Manchester United have this morning sacked Jose Mourinho; Michael Carrick has been appointed interim manager immediately, while the club have announced that a temporary external appointment will be made within the next 48 hours.

Mourinho leaves the club after two and a half years in charge following a disastrous start to the 2018/19 season which sees United trailing bitter rivals Liverpool by a massive 19 points as well as being 11 points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool means Mourinho was in charge of a United team that has made the worst start to a Premier League season ever, amassing just 26 points from 17 league games.

United were also dumped out of the EFL Cup by Championship side Derby, and although they qualified for the Champions League knock-out phase, they drifted in that particular market

Both the Betfair Sportsbook and Exchange have markets for who will be the Next Permanent Manchester United Manager (any person taking charge for 10 consecutive games will be deemed the winner) and former United man Laurent Blanc has been heavily backed this morning, into odds-on at 11:40. Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane and former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte were the early favourites.

Zidane is the marginal favourite on the Sportsbook at 5/2, with Conte at 7/2, Ryan Giggs 6/1, Michael Carrick 8/1, and Arsene Wenger 10/1.
