The last set of games before the international break gives fantasy gaffers a chance to assess what needs changing. Neil Monnery looks at the best and worst picks ahead of GW4…
Marcos Alonso – £6.7m. Only one player has cleared the 30 point barrier through three weeks and it is the Chelsea left-back. Four assists and a goal from defence will do that for you.
Eight to like
Pascal Gross – £6.9m. After being left on the bench for the trip to Liverpool, the 27 year-old was devalued by £100k in the fantasy game. They seem to be having more knee-jerk reactions than normal with regards to price fluctuations but this week the German should return to the starting XI for the home match with Fulham. Still a good third/fourth midfielder.
Pascal Gross is available at 21/10 to score anytime in Brighton & Hove Albion v Fulham (Sportsbook)
Marcos Alonso – £6.7m. Only one player has cleared the 30 point barrier through three weeks and it is the Chelsea left-back. Four assists and a goal from defence will do that for you. Clearly the new system isn’t curbing his attacking instincts and with Bournemouth at home on Saturday, he has every chance to add to his points haul.
Luciano Vietto – £5.5m. It is hard to drop a player when they’ve nabbed you two assists in the previous week. Vietto surprisingly started instead of Ryan Sessegnon for the 4-2 victory over Burnley and clearly impressed. Risky pick this as he may not start but at a dirt cheap price and with a good opponent who’ve yet to keep a clean sheet, might be worth it.
Lucas Moura – £7.1m. This isn’t the biggest shock I’ve ever penned for this column but as I said a fortnight ago, With Son away on Asian Cup duties, if you have the chance to pick an attacking midfielder from the likes of Man City, Spurs or Liverpool at a middle of the pack price, it is a good move. All he’s done since then is score three goals. Buy into the hype.
Mason Holgate – £4.5m. Everton have yet to keep a clean sheet in three games but on Saturday they face Huddersfield at Goodison Park. This is the perfect time to bring in a Toffee defender. Holgate is the cheapest priced who’ll likely start.
Jeffrey Schlupp – £4.5m. At the same price as Holgate above, you could get a midfielder who is classified as a defender for fantasy purposes. This mean he has the added bonus of qualifying for four points per clean sheet and is a good attacking option. Southampton at home is a chance to do well on both fronts.
Kelechi Iheanacho – £6.0m. With Jamie Vardy out suspended, it falls to the former Manchester City youngster to lead the line for Leicester this weekend. Liverpool at home isn’t the ideal match-up but this is a fabulous chance for him to show the fans exactly how good he is. Would be a one-week rental but worth a flyer.
Kelechi Iheanacho is available at 3/1 to score anytime in Leicester City v Liverpool (Sportsbook)
Jesse Lingard – £6.8m. Manchester United are still a team to avoid with regards to fantasy but Burnley after a Europa League midweek is a tough one to ignore. The England international looked the most lively against Spurs on Monday and is a very reasonable price. Dimitar Berbatov says Jose’s team need to find a way to win and I think Lingard is one of the keys.
Jesse Lingard is available at 17/2 to score first in Burnley v Manchester United (Sportsbook)
Two to avoid
Ryan Sessegnon – £6.4m. I was a big fan of the 18 year-old being a star this season. Seeing him on the bench and his replacement getting two assists has shaken my faith somewhat. If he plays, he could be very good but that is a big if.
Leroy Sané – £9.3m. Three games into the season and the German who wasn’t worn out by going to the World Cup has seen just half an hour of game time. Pep has more football knowledge in his left pinky fingernail than I have in my entire brain but that surprises me. You can’t trust Sané fantasy wise at the moment.
Captain’s pick
If you want to be unpredictable then the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic should be your go to picks. Both have an excellent chance to add to their scoring tally this week. Elsewhere Chelsea and Liverpool have the most favourable opponents in terms of the big name players. Spurs travel to a decent Watford side but Harry Kane can never be overlooked. Man City host Newcastle and they might park two double decker busses.
