A Betfair punter was jumping for joy on Sunday after landing a nine-fold multiple which saw £5.25 returning winnings of more than £20k.
It was a super Sunday for the punter who spread their bets across the continent’s leagues, starting in the Slovenian top flight and culminating in Serie A in dramatic style.
The punter clearly knew what they were doing when it came to handicap bets, as they correctly backed Ajax and Manchester City, among others, to overcome them.
With eight bets in the bag and one to go things were looking good ahead of Roma’s clash with Genoa.
Jose Mourinho’s team have struggled in recent weeks, and generally been unpredictable this season, but the punter put their faith in them to beat Genoa with a handicap of -1.
With the teams locked at 0-0 that faith looked misplaced. Enter Felix Afena-Gyan, an 18-year-old Ghanian who only made his first team debut last month.
He came off the bench and broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute. Cue delirium among Roma fans and a final few minutes that must have been almost unbearable for our punter who needed Mourinho’s men to score again.
