Paul Robinson has hit the cross bar twice already this week, falling just one goal shy on both Monday and Tuesday. Can Wednesday’s Daily Acca hit the net? Here are his selections:
Goals to keep flowing at Villa Park
Bet 1: Back Over 2.5 Goals in Aston Villa v Brentford @ 9/10 – KO 19:45 BST
These two teams have made good starts to the season as they have both won two and drawn one of their three Championship matches. They also both progressed to the next round of the EFL Cup.
The Villans won their only home game this term, as they came from 2-1 down to beat Wigan 3-2 – with the winner coming in injury time. They also netted three times in their 3-1 victory at Hull, but they are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league since John Terry departed.
Brentford have also been banging in the goals as they have racked up eight over the course of their three Championship outings. Add in another four in the cup and they are averaging three per 90 minutes across all competitions. It’s also worth noting that they too have been conceding goals – keeping just one clean sheet this term.
Reading’s miserable start to continue
Bet 2: Back Blackburn @ 4/6 – KO 19:45 BST
Tony Mowbray’s side have started the season well on their return to the Championship following their promotion from League One. They started with a couple of solid draws, before building on a cup win to beat Hull at the KCOM on Saturday.
It was their second clean sheet in three in the league and I have them down as potential Play-off candidates – especially if they continue on their fine form at Ewood Park from last season. A total of 15 wins and just two defeats shouldn’t be ignored – even if it was at a lower level.
Reading are the visitors this evening and they too have carried on where they left off last season – which isn’t a good thing if you’re a Royal. Paul Clement’s men have played three and lost three in the league – scoring just one goal in the process. They have won just one Championship away game since a 3-1 victory at Sunderland on December 2nd 2017, and that came at Burton – who were relegated alongside the Black Cats.
Trotters to walk all over Birmingham
Bet 3: Back Bolton @ 9/5 – KO 20:00 BST
Bolton only just avoided relegation last year, but they look like a new team this term, and they have seven points to their name from a possible nine. The only defeat they have had came at Elland Road in the cup, which given the form of Leeds this season, can easily be forgiven.
Phil Parkinson’s men have only played at home once this season, and they drew it 2-2 against Bristol City. They will be kicking themselves for not taking the three points given that they led 2-0 with less than half an hour to go, but they can make amends here.
Their opponents tonight are Birmingham and the Blues travel north having not tasted victory this year. They have drawn two and lost one in the league, while exiting the cup to the out-of-form, Reading.
Goals have proved elusive for Garry Monk’s side and they have now gone four and a half hours without finding the net. It’s also worth noting that they finished the previous campaign with seven defeats from their final eight away games.
