Romelu Lukaku has reaffirmed his desire to win trophies as he again cast doubt on his long-term future at Everton.

The Belgium international endured an inconsistent campaign at Goodison Park in the season that’s just finished, scoring 20 goals in all competitions but also coming in for criticism at times for some below-par displays.

The striker also admitted earlier in the year that he could look to move on to to a club regularly competing for the top prizes and he has now reiterated that stance, fuelling speculation he will eventually look for a move away from the Blues.

The 22-year-old said: “I want to win titles, not just be shadowing at the top. I want to know how it feels to play in the big games.

“I’m 22. It’s time to win trophies.”

Lukaku has ben linked with several sides across Europe over the past 12 months and was clearly frustrated at being played out wide at times last term by boss Roberto Martinez before he was then restored to a more familiar central role.

He added in Sport/Voetbal magazine: “I am a striker. At one point I went to the coach and I said to him ‘With all due respect, as winger I’m hopeless.

“I will only score goals if you put me up front’. That was true. The games that I did not score I was on the flank. I played in the middle, then I scored.”

There is no indication Lukaku will leave Everton this summer, and his contract runs until 2019, but if the Toffees again struggle in the bottom half of the table next season he could become increasingly restless.

Everton are 17.00 to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League in 2015-16.
