Paul Higham’s props column bet for Monday is a big-priced Bet Builder treble for Tottenham v Everton…
Where do you start with Tottenham v Everton? Two of the most unpredictable and unsettled sides in the Premier League clash on Monday when genuinely anything could happen.
The hosts are in full-on Spursy mode with six wins and seven defeats in their last 13 seeing them alternate between the sublime and the ridiculous.
A thrilling win over Man City and a hammering of Leeds one minute, toothless displays in defeats to Wolves and Burnley the next – then throwing in an FA Cup upset at Middlesbrough for good measure.
So expect the unexpected when Antonio Conte’s side take the field, especially against Everton who are mired in regelation trouble after 13 defeats in 17 Premier League games.
Frank Lampard’s Toffees have won just one of the last 18 league games against Spurs and haven’t won away in the division since August – the stats say a nailed-on home win, but the stats don’t come with a Spursy rating to factor in.
Tottenham are huge favourites but nowhere near trustworthy enough to back at the prices, so this is certainly a game for player performances.
The way it’s been going for Conte, could you even rule out Dele Alli coming back to haunt him? Alli will probably not start with Lampard likely to opt for a similar starting XI to the Man City game, but if it’s close and he comes off the bench then expect the home crowd to just get a bit more edgy.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are the obvious dangers but I’d be surprised if Everton pile forward and give them enough room in behind – as plenty of teams have shown that sitting deep and frustrating Spurs is the best way to beat them.
While there’s all kinds of question marks, one thing not up for debate is that it’s crisis time for Everton, and they’ll be fighting for everything, and that inevitably brings bookings into play.
Brazilian midfield Allan is the top man in the Everton side for getting stuck in, and getting booked for that matter, and is a rather generous 3.02/1 to get booked given he’s got six this season and four in his last five league games.
And in the Tottenham corner…Cristian Romero loves a booking with six in just 12 Premier League appearances this season. He’s kept up his 50% record in recent weeks with three yellows in six and is 2.68/5 to see another.
That Bet Builder double rounds out at around 109/1 but against this Spurs defence you just can’t see any way that Richarlison, Everton’s main attacking threat, won’t get a chance to exploit their obvious problems at the back.
Adding the Brazilian to hit just one shot on target, as he did against Man City, gives us a much healthier pay off for something that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
