Saturday Football Tips: Wirtz his weight in goals

After a nice winner on Friday, Paul Higham is sticking with the Bundesliga and targeted Florian Wirtz in Saturday’s props column bet.

They say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and as luck would have it after Jude Bellingham banked us a winner yesterday we’ve got another young playmaker in the Bundesliga that we can get behind.

Florian Wirtz is still only 18 but the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker is one of the most talented players in Germany, and we’re backing him here to have an impact on their game against Borussia Monchengladbach.

It’s a big game for Bayer who have slipped out of the top four after taking just two points from their last four games – with no coincidence that Wirtz hasn’t made an impact in any of those four.

Gladbach beat Bayern Munich last time out so confidence will be high, but there’s still the prospect of goals for the visitors, with Bayer still the second best away side in the league.

Only Bayern have won more points and score more goals on their travels, and with Gladbach conceding almost as many as they’ve scored at home then there’s every opportunity for Bayer to get goals.

Throw in the fact all of Gladbach boss Adi Hutter’s eight games against Leverkusen have seen over 2.5 goals and we should see a few on Saturday.

And when Bayer score, Wirtz has been behind it more often than not, he’s scored eight goals but also has 11 assists in all competitions this season.

3.7511/4 on Wirtz getting back on track with an assist here is worth taking.

That could be that, but once you see a trend you can’t unsee it and the fact that Wirtz has such a great rapport with striker Patrik Schick is something we just can’t ignore.

Schick has bagged 17 Bundesliga goal this season in just 15 games and his dynamite form has seen him bang in nine in the last five.

It Leverkusen score, odds are it’ll be Czech marksman Schick putting the ball in the net – and chances are it’s Wirtz that sets him up, as no player has assisted more goals for one single team-mate than Wirtz has for Schick.

The two have combined for six goals this season, and although our bet doesn’t depend on them doing so again, it’d be a nice touch for them to land the gamble in one effort.
