Thursday Football Tips: Expect card frenzy in Granada v Getafe

Our football props column has a 5/1 cards selection for Thursday’s clash between two of La Liga’s dirtiest teams, Granada and Getafe…

“Granada are the most-carded team in the Primera Division so far this season (33 in just nine games), while if you take look at the fair-play table (which ranks teams using one point for a yellow and three for a red) Getafe sit top.”

Cards seem highly likely when these two clash in La Liga on Thursday evening and it makes sense to seek out a related way to profit.

Granada are the most-carded team in the Primera Division so far this season (33 in just nine games), while if you take look at the fair-play table (which ranks teams using one point for a yellow and three for a red) Getafe sit top.

In that same table just year, who finished first and second? You got it – Getafe and Granada.

Essentially, these are teams with long-term poor discipline – in Getafe’s case they’ve been La Liga’s bully boys for several seasons – and now the pair are both having to deal with increasing concerns about relegation having won just one game between them so far this term.

As an added bonus, we’ve got a referee – Antonio Cordero Vega – who is the third strictest in La Liga this season, averaging 6.2 cards per game across his first five matches of the campaign.

In short, this looks the perfect storm for cards, the only question is what approach is best to take?

Over 2.5 cards for each team in a Bet Builder makes perfect sense at 7/5.

Granada have landed that in seven of their last eight games, while Getafe have managed it in their last six.

However, given the combination of factors outlined above, it looks worth chancing a bigger price and the one I’m going for is over 8.5 cards at 5/1.

Backing at least nine cards has delivered a profit in two of the four games the sides have played over the past two seasons, while I’d like to think I’ve made the case for why there could be a flurry of yellow and red (Getafe had two sent off on Monday night).

While it may seem a big number to Premier League viewers, it’s not so unusual for this mark to be hit in Spain and if there are two teams likely to produce such a figure – at least outside of a derby – it’s these two.
