Third in Germany meets third in Spain
Wolfsburg and Sevilla are both looking for their first wins in this season’s Champions League.
Both of the two opening fixtures in Group G were drawn. Sevilla were held 1-1 at home by Red Bull Salzburg, while Wolfsburg drew 0-0 at Lille.
Wolfsburg made a great start to the Bundesliga season, winning their first four games, but since that draw with Lille they have yet to win again. They followed the Lille result with a 1-1 draw at home to Eintracht Frankfurt and then lost 3-1 at Hoffenheim at the weekend. Their bright start does at least ensure that they remain in a healthy position of third in the Bundesliga, only three points below Bayern Munich.
Sevilla are also third in their domestic league and though they are also three points behind the La Liga leaders Real Madrid, Julen Lopetegui’s side have a game in hand. They are unbeaten in six league games this season (W4 D2), beating Espanyol 2-0 on Saturday.
Sevilla should have edge in close game
Sevilla are the favourites at 2.6613/8, with a Wolfsburg win at 3.185/40 and the draw at 3.39/4.
Both sides have made strong starts to the season, but it is Sevilla that have the extra quality and the European pedigree, having won the Europa League in 2020. Sevilla are 1.834/5 in the Draw No Bet market, which looks like a safe investment.
Whatever the result, it seems destined to be a tight game. Five of Sevilla’s seven games this season have seen less than three goals scored. Under 2.5 goals has landed in all three of their away matches and can be backed at 1.814/5.
