Tobias Gourlay’s backing the Lightbulbs to switch on the goals again at Philips Stadion tonight
PSV v Benfica
Tuesday 20:00
In Turkey yesterday, the Black Sea Storm delivered for us. Trabzonspor beat Sivasspor 2-1 to land our BTTS bet and give us a winning start to the week.
We’re looking to build on that in the Netherlands today as PSV host Benfica in the second leg of their Champions League qualifying tie. Benfica won the first leg 2-1 in Portugal and we fancy there could be a few more goals tonight as both sides chase a place at Europe’s top table.
PSV have scored 12 times across three competitive home matches so far this season, including 5-1 and 3-0 wins over Galatasaray and FC Midtjylland in earlier rounds of this competition. The Lightbulbs will fancy their chances of getting on the score-sheet tonight and forcing Benfica to come out and play.
In the last three years, they have now delivered Over 2.5 Goals in 7/7 home matches in the Champions League (including qualifiers and three games in the group-stage proper).
Since September 2015, Benfica have conceded on 20/22 Champions League away days. Many of those games were group-stage matches rather than qualifiers, but PSV are not so far off a group-stage team themselves and we like the hosts’ chances of scoring against the Eagles tonight.
Benfica themselves have scored on 9/10 Champions League away days since 2018 and won’t give up if they do go behind. With 7/10 of those games producing Over 2.5 Goals – to go with PSV’s strong trend in the same direction – we’re backing this one to deliver at least three match goals.
