The Scottish Premier League begins on Saturday and bettors think Steve Gerrard’s men can win a second successive title says Max Liu…
On eve of the big kick-off north of the border bettors are backing Rangers to continue their dominance of the Scottish Premier League in 2021/22.
Last season Steve Gerrard’s men ended Celtic’s run of nine league title’s in a row and odds of 1.422/5 on a second successive win for the Gers indicate that the pendulum has swung firmly to the blue side of Glasgow.
They did well to hold on to star striker Alfredo Morelos this summer and he is 9/2 to be the SPL’s top goalscorer.
Postecoglou faces battle to restore Celtic to glory
Celtic are 3.65 to take the title back to Parkhead as they begin life under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
He will be under no illusions about the scale of the task facing him after the Bhoys were dumped out of the Champions League in midweek by Midtjylland – the fourth year running that Celtic have failed to reach the group stage of Europe’s premier competition.
Afterwards, the new manager said Celtic hadn’t signed enough players in pre-season, so it sounds like the Australian is already getting his excuses in.
His immediate aim will be to restore the pride to Celtic in time for the first Old Firm game of the season on 29 August.
Saints value in winner without Old Firm
Rangers won the title by 25 points from Celtic last season but there were a further 14 points between the Bhoys and third-placed Hibernian. That shows that the gulf between the Old Firm and the rest very much endures.
It’s good news then that on the Sportsbook you can bet in the
winner without Celtic and Rangers market.
This should be a lively contest, with current market jollies Aberdeen 5/4, Hibs 15/8 and Hearts 7/1.
Our Scottish football expert Frank Monkhouse has other ideas though and is backing St Johnstone to finish best of the rest.
In his SPL season preview Frank says: “St Johnstone go in on the back of a stunning season where they enjoyed cup success. The Saints are improving under Callum Davidson and are great value in the without the Old Firm betting at 9/1. That’s huge.”
In betting on which club will finish bottom Frank likes the look of 23/10 on Ross County who had the worst goal difference in the league last term.
