Paul Higham can see goals galore coming in Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier between Rapid Vienna and Sparta Prague.
Rapid Vienna v Sparta Prague
Tuesday 20 July 19:30 BST kick-off
It’s like it’s never been away isn’t it? Tuesday sees Champions League qualifying taking place around Europe, including Celtic trying to make it through to the group stages – but our game of focus takes place in Austria.
Rapid Vienna are hoping to make a fast start to their Champions League bid as they host Sparta Prague in the first leg of their qualification tie.
Rapid have enjoyed a competitive game already this season, with them hammering Wiener Viktoria 6-0 in the cup to warm-up for this one in style.
Sparta have been extremely active all summer with friendly games, playing seven so far and winning five of those (D1 L1) to build on a nice ending to last season when they won five in a row.
These early season games are notoriously difficult to pick apart as you never really know what stage of fitness the respective squads are at, but for what it’s worth Rapid are 2.6213/8 favourites for victory with Sparta 2.8815/8 although a draw might be the shout at 3.55.
What does look likely though, even at this early stage, is the prospect of goals given Sparta especially love to be involved in high-scoring contests.
Over 2.5 goals here is 1.9110/11 and has landed in 10 of Rapid Vienna’s last 13 games and 14 of the last 15 games involving Sparta Prague.
There’s plenty to suggest over 3.5 goals could land at 3.185/40 as that’s paid off in seven of those last 13 Rapid Vienna games.
Even more so with Sparta though, who have seen 10 of their last 12 contain four goals or more – and since we’re all about value here, considering such convincing stats then we’re plumping for a real goalfest.
