Bournemouth complete thrilling comeback

A stunning second-half comeback preserved Bournemouth’s unbeaten home record and saw the Cherries pick up a thrilling 4-2 success over previous league leaders Reading on Saturday. Dominic Solanke scored twice alongside an Arnaut Danjuma equaliser and a superb solo strike from Lewis Cook to push Jason Tindall‘s troops into second place.

Bournemouth were two goals down at the interval but a double strike the space of three minutes restored parity for the Cherries before Cook’s right-foot drive off the underside of the crossbar and Solanke’s second on the break made sure of the success. Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was also called upon to produce a brilliant one-handed stop on his line.

Speaking post-match, Tindall said: “In the second half we came out and played with more purpose, more intensity and like a team that wanted to win and like a team that wanted to show everybody what they’re all about and wanted to go top of the league for a short period. We came out and delivered a performance which justified that in the second half.”

Nottingham Forest rue missed chances

Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton admitted the Tricky Trees were made to pay for not taking their chances as they fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Oakwell against Barnsley on Saturday. It was the Reds’ second loss under the former Brighton boss’ charge, coming on the back of successive wins earned prior to the international break.

The visitors had been the better side for much of the afternoon, despite their hosts hitting the bar on three occasions. Miguel Angel Guerrero spurned two golden opportunities to score, while Joe Lolley and Lyle Taylor both forced good saves, and Ryan Yates had a header ruled out. Forest were left rueing those moments when leaking two late goals.

Hughton said: “We created the better chances through normal play. If you don’t put your chances away then a good enough side like Barnsley can possibly capitalise on that. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen for us and it did for them. We’ve got to be scoring goals and if we’re not taking the opportunities then we continue to put that pressure on ourselves.”

Cherries odds-on favourites

Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest have locked horns in league football on only 10 occasions over the past 70 years although all 10 tussles arrived since 2005 with the duo sharing an even W3-D4-L3 return. The Cherries do boast a W3-D1-L1 record at Dean Court when hosting the Tricky Trees but lost their most recent meeting here with Forest.

Bournemouth 1.814/5 have suffered a solitary defeat since demotion (W6-D5-L1) and remain unbeaten on home soil this season (W4-D2-L0). Jason Tindall’s team have silenced three visitors to Dean Court, with only two sides giving away fewer open play goalscoring opportunities or shots from inside the penalty box in the Championship this term.

Nottingham Forest 5.004/1 opened the campaign with four successive losses but Chris Hughton has steadied the ship since taking charge, guiding the group out of the bottom-three with a W3-D3-L2 record. However, the Reds have returned a solitary point from their past three road trips under Hughton, as well as four losses in six games as guests this season.

Dean Court contests have tended to be feast or famine for goals backers in 2020/21. Three of six fixtures have featured a maximum of one goal – with the Cherries finding the going tough when asked to breakdown deep-lying defences. Even so, Bournemouth’s most recent performances suggests the hosts are starting to click into gear from an attacking standpoint.

Both Teams To Score has landed in eight of Bournemouth’s 12 outings, although with Nottingham Forest finding the net just twice in five away days, there’s little appeal in supporting a repeat this midweek.

Indeed, just two of the visitors’ overall outings have featured Over 2.5 Goals 2.021/1 with matches under Chris Hughton producing only 1.88 goals per-game on average. with that in mind, I’m happy taking the evens (2.00) available on Bournemouth Double Chance and Under 2.5 Goals via the Same Game Multi option on Betfair Sportsbook.
