United have been heavily criticised for not concluding any major transfer business in the last few weeks, despite bringing in midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajex at the start of September.
The club’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund youngster Jadon Sancho has been one of the transfer saga’s of the summer, and it seems they are set to miss out on the 20-year-old England international’s signature when the transfer window closes on Monday.
United are now widely expected to bring in former PSG striker Edinson Cavani in the next 24 hours, but it appears that they are set to miss out on any significant defensive recruits, an area where it is suggested they need to strengthen most.
Big drifters to finish in the top four
Solskjaer’s men were tormented by Tottenham in Sunday’s 1-6 defeat at Old Trafford, and it’s hard to argue that United going down to 10 men was a big factor in their defeat. The result is United’s second home defeat of the season, conceding nine goals in the process, while they conceded two and were largely outplayed at Brighton last weekend, despite eventually winning the game 2-3.
Monday’s Deadline Day is likely to have a major say in what we should expect from United this season but they’ve already drifted from a low of [1.32] to record a Top 4 Finish to their current price of around [2.8].
Three of United’s next four Premier League games are against Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton, so it’s not too difficult to envisage Solskjaer’s team still being in the bottom half of the table going into November’s international break.
Whether Solskjaer will still be the manager of the club by then is another matter.
Fulham boss Scott Parker is 3/1 to leave his post first, followed by West Brom boss Slaven Bilic at 7/2 and Burnley’s Sean Dyche at 5/1.
