Transfers Latest: Kai Havertz odds-on to sign for Chelsea

Kai Havertz is 1/20 to sign for Chelsea in the current transfer window amid reports that the player has agreed terms with the west London club.

Those odds are arguably too short, however, if you believe reports that the clubs are a long way from reaching agreement on the fee. Chelsea are believed to have offered around 80m euros – which includes add-ons – but Bayer Leverkusen value the player at 100.

Havertz had an excellent season and helped Leverkusen to a fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga and the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

He looks set to leave, even though Leverkusen legend and Betfair Ambassador Dimitar Berbatov has said the young German should stay at the club for one more season.

Bayern Munich could potentially be interested, although the odds on Havertz moving to the Bundesliga champions are 10/1. Liverpool are the next most likely club in the Premier League to make a bid but, at 20/1, they’d probably be unwilling to meet Leverkusen’s valuation.

Rice and Chilwell both odds-on for Chelsea moves

Chelsea have already pipped the Reds to the signing of Timo Werner this summer and it is arguably in defence where the Blues are most in need of reinforcements. They conceded 54 goals in the Premier League last season – the most of any top ten side – and will want to bring in defenders.

Declan Rice is 4/6 to move to Chelsea from West Ham, although Manchester United also need to bolster their backline and a move for Rice shouldn’t be ruled out at 4/1.

Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell has admirers at both clubs and is 1/6 to move to Stamford Bridge.

So far, Chelsea have been the most active of big English clubs in this window but they are [18.5] on the Exchange – behind City [2.12], Liverpool [2.82] and United [13.0] – to win the title in 2020/21.

United, meanwhile, are 8/11 to sign Jadon Sancho as the summer’s premier transfer saga rumbles on.

Borussia Dortmund said last week they would not sell the England man this summer and, while that was widely dismissed as a bargaining tactic, there has been little progress made since then.

The Red Devils, who showed in their defeat to Sevilla on Sunday that they desperately need to strengthen, may have to turn their attention elsewhere.

It would not be the first time executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has failed to seal a summer transfer deal and recriminations are already spilling over among United fans.
