Fantasy Premier League Tips: Five players to bring in on your wildcard

The Headline Pick: Kevin De Bruyne – Bournemouth (A)

Kevin De Bruyne has already seen 300,000 transfers in for Gameweek 3 and it’s easy to see why. He’s already got three assists for the season in his opening two games and the upcoming fixture schedule for Manchester City is sublime: they face Bournemouth, Brighton, Norwich and Watford in their next four games.

De Bruyne appears to be back to his absolute best, after injury hampered much of his last campaign. He’s a player who could easily hit 20 assists for the season, as well as chipping in with a few goals of his own and he could make a mockery of that £9.6 million price tag – his cheapest in three seasons.

With Manchester City’s consistency in the Premier League, it’s well worth considering squeezing De Bruyne into your FPL team, alongside Raheem Sterling. This pair could be dynamite and they face a defence who are third highest for expected goals conceded this season.

Kevin De Bruyne is now available to back at 9/4 to score against Bournemouth this weekend.

The Budget Pick: Teemu Pukki – Chelsea (H)

Teemu Pukki has dispelled any concerns that he wouldn’t be able to replicate the 29 goals he scored in the Championship last season. He’s bagged four goals in his opening two games and could be the must-have budget forward for this fantasy season.

Pukki was overlooked by many managers at the start of the season due to his poor run of fixtures, but if he can score at Anfield then he’s capable of goals against any opponent, making him fixture proof. There’s away visits to West Ham and Burnley in the next four, to sit alongside visits of Chelsea and Manchester City.

Norwich are clearly looking to fuel their Premier League success by trying to outscore their opponents and despite that strategy causing concerns for Canaries fans, it’s not a bad prospect for FPL managers looking to invest in this all out attacking side.

The VAR Pick: Harry Kane – Newcastle (H)

Despite failing to impress against Manchester City, Harry Kane will be a popular fantasy asset this weekend and even a potential captain differential. The fixture couldn’t be any better, if Pukki can score a hat-trick against a weak Newcastle defence, surely Kane can do the same.

He’s already grabbed a brace in his opening home game against Aston Villa, with the so-called August curse finally a distant memory. Heung-Min Son returns from suspension this weekend, which could further bolster the Spurs attack.

Kane is mightily consistent at converting penalties, so if VAR comes into play at the new White Hart Lane, he will be poised for the score-sheet.

You can back VAR and bet on Spurs to score a penalty against Newcastle at odds of 13/5.

The Sleeper Pick: Seamus Coleman – Aston Villa (H)

Everton are the only defence to have kept their slate clean so far this season, and with great fixtures in their next four games, it’s not too late to get on board this solid defence. With left-back Digne currently flagged with injury, it’s Coleman who’s caught the eye on the opposite flank.

The Irishman has recently been announced as the club captain and has managed to fend off competition for his place from loan signing Sibide. There’s always a threat of attacking returns from Coleman, he reached four goals and four assists just three seasons ago.

He’s already managed a shot in each of Everton’s opening fixtures and up next it’s Aston Villa who lie second in the expected goals against charts.

Back Everton to keep a clean sheet at 5/2 against Aston Villa.

The Wildcard Pick: John Lundstram – Leicester (H)

We believed last season that Aaron Wan-Bissaka was the greatest £4.0 million defender in fantasy history, but this Blades star may already have taken that mantle. Despite fans having no faith in his chances of regular starts, he’s currently the highest scoring defender in FPL.

He’s playing out of position as a midfielder, despite being classified as a defender, and has already grabbed a goal and a clean sheet this season. The Blades have shown their defensive qualities already, so there’s huge potential for points across the pitch for Lundstram.

He’s a must-have pick for all fantasy managers and his price tag shouldn’t mean you consider him as purely a bench player. Those on a wildcard can look to build him into their weekly starting lineup, allowing plenty of room for the premium players.
