Glasgow Rangers have received a nice draw in the second qualifying round of the Europa League as they are up against a side that could only finish fourth in the Luxembourg league last season.
The visitors did see off Cardiff MU and Cork City to get this far, but Rangers are a different level entirely, and they are improving rapidly under Steven Gerrard.
The Gers thumped St Joseph’s 10-0 on aggregate in the previous round, with both legs seeing this selection land. Expect more of the same tonight.
Floodgates to remain closed at Wolves
Bet 2: Back Under 4.5 Goals in Wolves v Crusaders @ 17/20 – KO 19:45 BST
Wolves make their Europa League debut against Northern Irish opposition this evening and while I expect them to win comfortably, there is definite value in there being four goals or less.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s men were hugely impressive last season, but they were never big scorers. Many of their wins were narrow ones, and their defence were pretty tight – especially at Molineux.
They actually struggled to break down opponents who they were expected to beat, as their best results came against clubs in the top eight.
The visitors won’t want to be embarrassed, and their main aim will be to keep the score down. Three or four nil feels like the most likely outcome.
No luck of the Irish for Shamrock
Bet 3: Back Apollon @ 6/5 – KO 20:00 BST
Cypriot club, Apollon Limassol, are well versed in recent European experience, and last year’s exploits in this competition included victories over Basel, Lazio and Marseille.
I would have them down as odds-on shots to win at Shamrock tonight, as the hosts have no real pedigree in the Europa League, and they have won just two of their last five at home in the Irish Premier Division.
Sofronis Avgousti’s men haven’t kicked off their domestic campaign yet, but they were comfortable winners in the last round (6-0 on aggregate – winning both home and away).
