It’s been a strong start to the week, and Kev hopes for another winner in Rhyl tonight.
No fairytale for Nomads this time
Connah’s Quay v Partizan
Wednesday 25 July, 18:30
There was a Belarusian bonus for us last night, as BATE Borisov beat Rosenborg 2-1 to give us an odds-against winner.
We switch our attention to the Europa League qualifiers now, and the continuation of one of the stories of the summer. Welsh side Connah’s Quay dumped out Scottish outfit Kilmarnock in the previous round, and now they face Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade.
Connah’s Quay are coached by former Manchester City defender Andy Morrison, who captained the team in their third-tier playoff final against Gillingham, a match that’s seen as a turning point in the club’s history. Morrison’s leadership skills clearly extend to his coaching career, as he led the Nomads to second in the Welsh Premier League last season.
However, a game against a club like Partizan Belgrade represents a huge step up in the class of opposition. Partizan finished third in their domestic league last term, and have made a winning start to this campaign. They are coached by former Aston Villa centre-forward Savo Milosevic, who has already made the fans happy by leading his team to victory in the Serbia Cup final against bitter Belgrade rivals Red Star.
There isn’t much to go on here in terms of recent results, but in terms of technical ability Partizan should be ahead of a squad that includes a cocktail barman, a security guard and a boxer. Connah’s Quay also won’t be at home, as the game will be played in Rhyl.
I suspect Partizan can win by a couple of goals here, so I’ll back them by using the Asian Handicap.
