Tobias Gourlay set the bar high with a six-winner week, and Kevin Hatchard begins his latest shift in Iceland.
“Hafnarfjordur haven’t won any of their last five top-flight games, while Vikingur have put together a six-match unbeaten run in all competitions, and have racked up eight points in their last four league games.”
Hosts to extend winless run
Hafnarfjordur v Vikingur Reykjavík
Monday 8 July, 20:15
I don’t know what the Icelandic is for “better late than never,” but Breidablik’s 89th-minute consolation goal gave Tobias his sixth winner of the week. He’s earned that week of summer sun.
We start our latest journey in Iceland, as Hafnarfjordur take on Vikingur Reykjavík in the top-flight Úrvalsdeild.
Vikingur didn’t make a great start to the season, but they are on the charge at the moment. They have put together a six-match unbeaten run in league and cup, and in the league they have lost just once in their last eight away matches, a run that stretches back into last season.
While Vikingur have taken eight points from their last four games, Hafnarfjordur have hit a sticky patch. They haven’t won any of their last five league matches, and they have leaked at least two goals in four of their last five outings in the Úrvalsdeild. At their Kaplakrikavollur home, they have taken just a point from the last two games.
The hosts are trading at [1.8] to win this, and given the recent form of both clubs, I think that’s too short.
