Torino v Lazio
Sunday 19:30
In Brazil last night, Gremio beat Atletico MG 1-0. The hosts scored the game’s only goal shortly after half-time, but missed a first-half penalty that felt like the best chance of sparking the goal rush we needed.
This evening brings the final round of Serie A in Italy. It’s a set of fixtures that has delivered lots of goals in recent seasons, but our focus is on the Match Outcome in Turin, where seventh-placed Torino are hosting eighth-placed Lazio. There’s not a huge amount riding on the match – Torino can’t qualify for Europe, Lazio are already in thanks to their Coppa Italia success – but we’re happy to take the [2.52] about the in-form hosts despatching their visitors and confirming seventh place as their own.
Walter Mazzarri’s Toro have won eight of their last 10 at the Stadio Olimpico. Not all of those matches were gimmes: they’ve beaten the teams now third, fourth and fifth in the table.
Lazio are W8-D3-L7 on the road this term, but that is not the full story. Simone Inzaghi’s men have lost 5/11 recently and are W1-D0-L5 visiting teams now above them in the table. With silverware already in the bag, they look more likely to ease up than their hosts, who will want to give their fans one last performance.
