After an odds-against winner in Scotland, Kev’s hunting down another one in Denmark.
Promotion chasers to extend their lead
Silkeborg v Thisted
Wednesday 8 May, 17:30
Scottish success for us last night, as our boys Inverness stormed to a 3-1 playoff win at Ayr. We’ll celebrate with some shortbread. God, I love shortbread.
Anyway, as we wipe away the crumbs, we’ll head to Denmark, because second-tier table-toppers Silkeborg are in action, taking on relegation-threatened Thisted.
SIlkeborg were relegated last term, and as such they were one of the favourites to win promotion to the Superliga this time around. They have lived up to that billing so far, and a win tonight would take them four points clear of Viborg at the top, at least until Viborg play later this week.
Although Silkeborg have failed to win their last two home matches, they have still won four of their last six league matches overall, and tonight’s opponents are unlikely to offer too much resistance. Thisted, who were only formed in 1989, don’t have much experience at this level, and they are struggling to keep their heads above water. They have lost four of their last five away matches in the league, and their only two road victories since the start of September have both been against the bottom side FC Helsingor.
Thisted lost their most recent meeting with Silkeborg 4-1, and they were recently hammered 4-0 by Viborg. I think they’ll suffer another beating here against an elite team in the division, so I’ll back the hosts -1.5 on the Asian Handicap at [2.4].
