Liverpool pulled off one of the great European escapes when overturning a 3-0 first leg deficit with a 4-0 defeat of Barcelona at Anfield. The correct score was backed at a massive [120.0] on the Betfair Exchange as an understrength home side – without Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino – pulled off what had looked impossible.
Needing to just match the Nou Camp result to take it to extra time, Jurgen Klopp’s side went one better, defeating their illustrious Spanish opponents by four clear goals. The heroes were Divock Origi, the Belgian striker scoring a double including the opening and closing goals, and second-half substitute Georginio Wijnaldum who also scored twice.
The size of the task was illustrated by ‘To Qualify’ odds on the Betfair Exchange that made Liverpool [25.0] to progress from the tie. Barcelona had been backed at the reverse price of those odds, or [1.04] in other words!
